Mozambique: Poaching “virtually under control”

Through a public tender started in October 2021, the Foundation for the Conservation of Biodiversity (BIOFUND), in collaboration with the National Administration of Conservation Areas (ANAC) and the Gilé National Park (PNAG), has identified the first group of researchers who will initiate applied research activities at PNAG within the scope of the PROMOVE Biodiversity Program, financed by the European Union and an integral part of PROMOVE Global.
Three teams were selected by the tender process: a team from the Faculty of Agronomy and Forestry Engineering of UEM (Maputo); the Faculty of Communication of the Catholic University of Mozambique (Nampula); and the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of the Lúrio University (Niassa).

The selection of these first researchers for the Gilé National Park (PNAG), marks the beginning of the implementation of research activities and participatory studies to reach the third specific objective of PROMOVE Biodiversidade, which aims to encourage and disseminate applied research and participatory studies related to managing natural resources and improving the livelihoods of communities living around the program’s beneficiary areas.
