The operating room at the Matola Provincial Hospital (HPM) in Maputo province suffered a fire yesterday, causing damage the extent of which is yet to be calculated, clinical director of the health unit Joana Nachaque has revealed.
The fire was brought under control and extinguished by firefighters from the company Mozal, she added.
Nachaque also told ‘Domingo’ that a multi-sectoral team would attend the site to investigate possible causes and assess the damage this Friday.
Nachaque added that, at the time of the fire, one patient was recovering there after an operation, but was successfully removed and not in danger.
The operating room at HPM is next to the maternity ward, resulting in all patients in the maternity ward being removed to safety in other parts of the hospital, the clinical director said.
