A fire whose origina is still unknown swept through a lodge in in Metuge district, Cabo Delgado, last Friday night, Carta de Moçambique reports.
Sources say that, although there were no casualties, the incident left residents, believing themselves the target of a terrorist attack, in a panic but a team of South African mercenaries deployed to the site found it to be a “normal” fire, and not caused by terrorists, Carta de Moçambique adds.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, Situ Island Resort posted a press release on its Facebook page about “an assumed arson attack” where “some of the buildings were set alight”. The communique reports that “no one was injured during the incident and all the guests were evacuated safely and returned to mainland Pemba”
The resort is located on Situ Island, Quirimbas archipelago, and will remain closed for the time being. “At this point, it is unknown who started the fires. In light of the continued Covid-19 pandemic, and until the investigation regarding the fires is concluded, Situ Island Resort will remain temporarily closed to guests”.
