Mozambique: Cyclone Jude hits Nampula coast
Screen grab: TVM
A vessel was seized by the Mozambican Defence Forces last week off the coast of Mocimboa da Praia, one of the Cabo Delgado districts most affected by terrorism.
Sailing from Pemba with more than seven and a half tons of various essential products, the vessel was bound for the village of Macanja in Palma district.
For security reasons, the circulation of shipping on the Ibo Island-Palma route is prohibited.
The commander of land forces in the village of Mocímboa da Praia, Colonel Arone Alberto Nema, said that suspicion was aroused because the crew has transit documents indicating the island of Matemo, in Ibo district, as its final destination.
One of the crew members, Issa Mwarabo, acknowledged acting in violation of the rules imposed by the authorities, but said the intention was to help the population of the village of Macanja, who are struggling with food shortages.
Meanwhile, the joint Mozambique and Rwanda forces are gaining ground in actions to combat terrorists, last week liberating the villages of Nakitengue and Mbau, considered important enemy positions.
The report was brought by TVM’s Jornal da Tarde on Sunday and starts at 3;47 in the video below.
