Mozambique’s Defence and Security Forces (FDS) have captured eight alleged collaborators of the terrorist group which has been terrorising districts of Cabo Delgado province since October, 2017.
Police sources report that six individuals were captured in the city of Pemba and two others in the districts of Mueda and Palma.
According to sources, one woman was arrested in the city of Pemba last Friday during an inspection operation and found to be in possession of three dismantled AK-47-type firearms hidden in a bundle of food products.
The woman confessed under interrogation that the “merchandise” belonged to her son.
The following night (Saturday), the police ambushed a group of five young people allegedly going to the woman’s house in the Alto Gingone neighbourhood to collect the “order”, and carrying backpacks containing an unspecified amount of money.
In Mueda district, a similar operation led to the arrest of an individual about 30 years old carrying a briefcase containing military (FDS) uniforms, a firearm and four machetes. According to ‘Carta’ sources, this individual also confessed to being part of the terrorist group.
Another alleged terrorist collaborator was identified at the Pundanhar Administrative Post in Palma district. The man, about 50 years old, confessed in an amateur video to being a collaborator, saying there were children in their ranks, but without advancing their ages.
