Mozambique: Fashion designer Taibo Bacar honoured as Business Person of the Year at 2025 Italian Business Awards

Mozambican fashion designer Taibo Bacar has been awarded the “Business Person of the Year” accolade at the Italian Business Awards 2025, hosted by the Mozambique-Italy Chamber of Commerce (CCMI). The ceremony took place at a hotel in Maputo, celebrating outstanding contributions to business and cultural exchange between the two countries.

The founder and creative director of fashionbrand Taibo Bacar,along with Tatiana Ismael, Executive Director of the label, were recognised during the gala event in the Mozambican capital.

“This recognition highlights the brand’s commitment to promoting cultural and business integration between Mozambique and Italy through fashion, creativity, and innovation. We hope to inspire other Mozambican companies to reach international stages,” said Taibo Bacar.

Reflecting on the Taibo Bacar brand’s journey, he added: “This award celebrates our remarkable path, from being the first African brand to showcase a collection at Milan Fashion Week in 2010, to our continued collaboration with Italian manufacturers. Through fashion, we aim to foster deeper ties between our two countries.”

Bacar also expressed hopes that this recognition would pave the way for more Mozambican brands to gain global recognition:

“Beyond this honour, we aspire to be a catalyst for other Mozambican brands to shine internationally, proudly carrying forward our shared cultural heritage.”

The Italian Business Award celebrates the excellence, innovation, and resilience of individuals and companies that contribute to strengthening the relationship between Mozambique and Italy.
