A ‘fake Mariano Nhongo’ has been captured by authorities in Mozambique, President of the Republic Filipe Nyusi announced on Wednesday.
The president said that the impostor, a young man, had contacted several entities, identifying himself as the leader of the self-proclaimed ‘Renamo Military Junta’ and asking for ‘support’ to leave the woods.
“Your colleagues found themselves facing ‘a fake Nhongo’. He would go around calling them, saying that he wanted to hand himself over, but that he need support: ‘I ask for his and I ask for that’.(…) Then he would disappear…,” President Nyusi related.
“Watch out for people like this. He spoke to Tete, spoke to Inhambane, he spoke to Maputo, he spoke to some [people in] leadership. (…) That ‘fake Nhongo’, we have caught him (…) We will present him to the public,” Nyusi said.
President Nyusi was addressing the first National Coordination Council between decentralised governance organs and central government in Maputo on Wednesday.
