ExxonMobil Moçambique, Limitada (EMML), in partnership with New Vision Academy, announces the rehabilitation of the Pemba multi-sports facility in Pemba, Cabo Delgado.
The community facility, renamed to New Vision Pembinha Court, located on Av. 25 de Setembro, Cimento Neighborhood, City of Pemba is one of the few public sports facilities in Pemba and has been out of use for more than 20 years due to deteriorating conditions brought on by lack of maintenance. The youth rely on private courts and facilities to engage in physical activity and for team practices.
The facility, which will have the capacity to hold more than 1,000 children and young people at full capacity, will include a multi-purpose court, the administrative office, sanitation facilities, a children’s playing area and a Gym. This venue will be open to all who wish to use the facilities.
To begin the works, Arne Gibbs, the General Manager of ExxonMobil Mozambique, and the Governor of Cabo Delgado, Valige Tauabo, attended the brick laying ceremony where the partnership was cemented.
“Sports has been shown to improve creativity, emotional and physical health. These facilities will allow the youth to identify hobbies and talents, promote their individuality, and establish an appreciation for the value of community and teamwork, as well as competition,” said Arne Gibbs, during the ceremony.
Speaking at the event, Governor of Cabo Delgado Valige Tauabo shared his excitement for this initiative that will benefit the youth and keep them occupied while providing an avenue for them to share ideas and identify young talents. The governor added that, “It brings me joy to participate in the brick layering ceremony of a sports facility that is so useful to the community,” said Governor of Cabo Delgado Valige Tauabo.
