Nineteen grenades and an unspecified amount of ammunition were found last Wednesday on a building site in the Machava Socimol neighbourhood, Matola municipality, Maputo province.
The buried military material was found by builders who were excavating prior to constructing a house.
The artefacts were removed this Thursday by a team comprised of Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) and the military.
Authorities said the explosive devices found were obsolete, but underlined the need to discover their source, bearing in mind that the area was, for some years, the scene of military activities.
More than 10 children have lost their lives and many others have been injured by explosive devices found in residential areas in Manica and Zambézia provinces.
