More than 50,000 foreign tourists are expected to spend Christmas and New Year in Mozambique, according to Muhammad Abdullah, president of the Tourism department of the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique, CTA, who also discloses that, during the course of 2022 so far, more than 300,000 tourists visited Mozambique..
Muhammad Abdullah was speaking in Maputo on Wednesday (21-12) at the press conference on the festive season, attended by representatives from various sectors of activity (CTA, INAE, industry and Commerce and Migration services), as well as from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and Police of the Republic of Mozambique.
The representative of the National Economic Activities Inspectorate (INAE), Leonor Mabutana, noted out that, this year, food prices in this season “tend to drop in some parts of the country”, while the spokeswoman for the National Migration Service (SENAMI), Leidita Mahanjane, reported the extension of opening hours at border posts.
Muhammad Abdullah also took the opportunity to comment on the roll-out of the electronic visa system for foreign citizens, noting that the private sector considers that the eVISA platform “will reduce the waiting time for issuing visas, despite such challenges as may arise”.
“It is very important to ensure the technical training of civil servants to respond to the visa demand. Such training must be continuous and gradual since we are dealing with technology and, at the same time, important and sensitive documents,” he warned.
