Mozambique’s National Directorate of Civil Identification (DNIC) has expanded identity card issuing services overseas to six countries, and is preparing to offer services in four more, the entity has announced.
“We have extended identity card issuing services in the diaspora to China, Germany, Ethiopia, Kenya, the USA and South Africa,” the Wednesday edition of ‘Noticias’ quotes DNIC spokesman Alberto Sumbana as saying.
The next countries to provide the service will be Zimbabwe, Malawi, Tanzania and Eswatini, with all of which Mozambique shares borders.
The objective is to speed up service, mainly because of the coronavirus pandemic.
A DNIC brigade has since February been in South Africa, one of the main destinations for Mozambicans, and fulfilled 104 requests in a month. The service operates in Johannesburg, with new service desks scheduled to open in Polokwane and Nelspruit, closer to emigrant communities.
