Mozambique is represented at the 31st Indonesian Trade Expo 2016 in Jakarta by service providers and construction companies.
Mozambican business people are looking for partnerships particularly in the tourism sector, where Indonesia has proved to be a world player. National companies participating in the fair include travel agencies, the hotel industry and catering firms.
The Mozambican delegation also includes entrepreneurs with interests in construction, taking advantage of the opportunity to visit tile, cement and equipment factories in the Asian country.
Mozambique presence reciprocates Indonesia’s participation in the Maputo International Fair (FACIM), where it showcased food, construction material and paramilitary and security equipment, among other items.
The exhibition was opened yesterday by Indonesian President Joko Widodo with an audience of thousands of entrepreneurs both domestic and foreign and other high-level guests. The exhibition showcases the best of Indonesia, the largest archipelago in the world.
The expo, which is open until Sunday, shows everything from food to furniture, decorative items, garments, footwear, household appliances and jewellery, as well as hospital supplies and medicines.
The fair has over a thousand exhibitors in tourism, the automotive sector, military and non-lethal security equipment and information and communication technologies.
This year’s issue is highlighted by the presentation of sugar extracted from the coconut palm, a product which Indonesia is presenting as an alternative to cane sugar and which it hopes to see spread throughout the world.
During the fair, the Indonesian authorities expect to sign 25 memoranda of understanding with countries including Sudan, South Africa (to which it already exports locally manufactured Toyota vehicles), Nigeria and others.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Indonesian Trade Minister Enggartasto Lukita said that the fair was taking place at a time when the world is going through a bad patch for international trade, and appealed to his countrymen to be more proactive in creating and consolidating partnerships.
Lukita said that the priority was not just to consolidate markets already conquered, but to make Indonesian products increasingly attractive in order to encourage new partners.
“We must work for out partnership with Africa to grow with each passing day, because the future is there,” he said.
