The European Union Military Assistance Mission in Mozambique (EUMAM MOZ) and United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) organised a ‘Specialised Training on Reception and Care of Victims of Terrorism by the Mozambican Defence and Security Forces’ that took place from 2nd to 4th April.
The event was possible thanks to the synergy between EUMAM MOZ and UNODC, which joined forces to bring the initiative to a successful conclusion. The Counterterrorism Advisor of the EUMAM MOZ was one of the speakers during all the event.
Over the course of the three days, the participants exchanged experiences and debated the topics covered, providing the necessary advice to act and react in accordance with the situations that both Mozambican Defence and Armed Forces (FADM) and Police of the Republic of Mozambique may face. The topic of this training is of extreme importance considering the conflict in Cabo Delgado.
It should be noted that the opening session was attended by the Mission Force Commander of EUMAM MOZ, Brigadier General Luís Barroso, the Chief of UNODC’s Office in Mozambique, Antonio De Vivo, a representative from the FADM, Brigadier General Omar Nala Saranga, and Head of Governance Team and Head of Cooperation a.i. from the Delegation of the European Union to Mozambique, Alicia Martín Diaz.
EUMAM MOZ is a non-executive mission with a mandate until 2026. All activities are conducted in close coordination with the Mozambican authorities and in full compliance with their requests.
With support of the @EU_FPI, the UNODC and the #EUMAMMOZ trained Mozambique’s Defense & Police Forces on how to better support victims of terrorism, through approaches that are 1⃣Victim-centered; 2⃣Rights-based; 3⃣Preventing secondary harm approaches.
