With the support of the +EMPREGO project, the Mártir Cipriano Polytechnic Institute in Nampula, Mozambique, in 2022 welcomed 100 young people, displaced from Cabo Delgado, who will benefit from three years of training leading to Level 5 professional qualifications in laboratory technician, secretarial, aquaculture, nautical, accounting, hospitality and agriculture skills.
The young people, 56 of them female, receive a grant and reside at the Institute. The instruction they receive will give them a high probability of getting a job and securing a decent life for themselves.
More than 44,000 people have been displaced by the recent violence in northern Mozambique, 75% of them women, children and young people. Some of them still face food insecurity and even severe hunger in the provinces of Cabo Delgado, Niassa and Nampula.
+EMPREGO is a delegated cooperation project that has the financial support of the European Union, with co-financing and management by Portugal’s Camões – Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua, I.P..
Its priority target group is 1,200 young Mozambicans aged between 15 and 25, trainees and graduates of vocational education, 25% of whom are women. It is anticipated that, by the end of the project, at least 50% of the beneficiaries will be employed or self-employed.
