The Indonesian Embassy in Mozambique, represented by Ambassador Herry Sudradjat, in partnership with EMP-Buzi Hydrocarbons Pte, Ltd, operator of the Buzi natural gas block and represented by the company’s general manager, Mr. Fachrizal, has donated a number of school desks to elementary schools in Sofala.
The desks, a materialisation of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, were officially received by Governor Lourenço Bulha in Beira city on 10 October.
Ambassador Herry Sudradjat said on the occasion that the donation of school desks by EMP-Buzi Hydrocarbons was a way to strengthen the partnership between the governments of Indonesia and Mozambique in the field of development cooperation.
According to Ambassador Sudradjat, given the limited allocation of funds from the Government of Indonesia for development assistance to friendly countries, the involvement of the private sector was an excellent partnership model, which would greatly assist Indonesia’s diplomatic mission in Mozambique.
Buzi Hydrocarbons General Manager Fachrizal said that the donation of school desks for elementary schools in Mozambique was a way for the company to express its commitment to improving the quality of education in Mozambique.
Fachrizal added that, although Buzi Hydrocarbon operations in Mozambique had not yet reached the production stage, corporate social responsibility actions were nevertheless being carried out in communities located in the area where the company is located.
According to him, many schools in Mozambique, especially in the province where Buzi Hydrocarbons operates, still do not have sufficient school desks.
Governor of Sofala Lourenço Bulha welcomed the donation of the 450 desks and has assisted by providing a truck to collect the desks and distribute them among the schools.
Governor Bulha and Ambassador Herry Sudradjat witnessed the arrival of the school desks in one of the elementary schools in the Buzi area.
Governor Bulha said that the desks delivered would benefit more than 3,700 children in Buzi district, and contribute to creating decent learning conditions, allowing more children to enter school and complete their respective levels of education, as well as improving the quality of education overall.
The Buzi block is operated by a natural gas production partnership between EMP-Buzi Hydrocarbons Pte, Ltd, a subsidiary of PT Energi Mega Persada Tbk, an Indonesia-based upstream oil and natural gas company, and Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH), a Mozambique state-owned company. The partners own 75 and 25 percent of the shares respectively.
