Italian-Mozambican Jazz Festival kicks off in Maputo

The concert celebrating the 50-year career of singer Elvira Viegas will take place on November 22, 2024, starting at 6 p.m., at the Mozambique-China Cultural Center. The event is set to be an emotional tribute to the artistic journey of the artist, who has been a true icon in Mozambican music.
Elvira Viegas, whose career began in a choir group in the Mafalala neighborhood, has won the hearts of generations, enchanting and inspiring thousands of fans over five decades. Her music transcends borders and is a vital part of Mozambique’s cultural heritage.
At the concert, Elvira Viegas will share the stage with various national artists who have been part of her journey, including Sizaquel Mathombe, Ivone Viegas, Orquestra Xiquitsi, Nelton Miranda, Bernardo Domingos, Djivas, Fadir, Machote, Livio, Ivete, Sacres, Valy, Raimundo, Alvin Cossa, and Mangovia, ACCD Ungasoly.
According to the organizers, the event will be a musical journey narrating the rich history of Elvira Viegas’ career, highlighting her influences and significant contributions to the artistic culture of the country. The concert aims not only to celebrate Elvira Viegas’ undeniable talent but also to recognize her dedication and the lasting impact she has had on the Mozambican music scene.
The celebration is expected to be a unique event, with the artist promising to provide the audience with a night filled with emotion and memories of the great hits from her six albums: “Ndzi Xikala Vitu”, “Tlanga U Pimela”, “Kusuhi na Mine”, “The Best of Elvira Viegas”, “Tsendeleka”, and her latest album, “Ora Chegou”.
It is worth noting that Elvira’s artistic portfolio includes more than 100 recorded songs. Ninety-nine percent of these songs are based on poems written in Portuguese, which were later translated and adapted into musical compositions, a process carried out exclusively by the artist.
The announcement of Elvira Viegas’ concert was made via a press release on Tuesday by the production company Khuzula, which organizes the AZGO Festival.
