Pubic company Mozambique Electricity (EDM), says that the number of people with access to electricity in Mozambique is on the rise. In 2018, the number rose by 247,000 new connections, and, next year, another 300,000 are expected.
Many Mozambicans still lack electrical power, a crucial developmental factor, and many of those who do enjoy it have only poor quality connections. Even so, EDM points out, the number of new connections is increasing.
Despite these results and projections, the company has suffered losses from vandalism of electrical equipment right across the country. Lack of water in dams has also lowered production levels.
The quality of electric power is another critical issue the company faces.
EDM however says it does not expect the price of domestic electricity to rise this year.
EDM notes that all of Mozambique’s provincial capitals are now electrified, as are district village headquarters and about 60 of the administrative posts in the country.
