Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa, the leader of the ruling party in Zimbabwe and current chairman of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), has congratulated Frelimo on its performance during the recent elections.
The opposition in Mozambique called for protests after rejecting the electoral processes, and the National Electoral Commission has yet to announce the official results, then to be validated by the Constitutional Council, but Mnangagwa has already come forward with congratulations to the Frelimo party and its candidate Daniel Chapo.
The Zimbabwean president says that ZANU-PF will continue to strengthen its relations with Frelimo. “I would like to congratulate our revolutionary sister party Frelimo and the President-elect, His Excellency Comrade Daniel Chapo, as well as the people of Mozambique for their resounding victory during the recently held elections. ZANU-PF is ready to cement the long-standing revolutionary unity between our two parties and our two countries,” the Zimbabwean leader said.
It is worth recalling that two undercover Zimbabwean journalists investigating possible fraud in the Mozambican elections were among the hundreds of people who voted at Nemanwa Growth Point on the outskirts of Masvingo, on 9 October.
Zanu-PF, the ruling party in Zimbabwe, mobilised its supporters to register to vote in the last elections in Mozambique, considered the most fraudulent in the history of Africa and the world.

A team from the Mirror newspaper recently visited the Nemanwa region and interviewed several people who confirmed that they were Zimbabweans and had voted in the Mozambican elections. The two journalists also reported that they themselves voted without any problems after presenting their Zimbabwean identity cards and Mozambican voter cards at the polling stations.
The newspaper also managed to expose a former ZANU-PF councillor in Masvingo, Edison Manyawi, who obtained a Mozambique voter card and voted without hesitation in the elections held on Wednesday. His voter card was issued in April, and he was not alone, as many ZANU-PF members also voted for Frelimo.
