Five Renamo candidates to polling station staff (MMVs) in the Panda district of Inhambane province forged their Grade 7 certificates, police say.
PRM Inhambane spokesman Juma Dauto says the detainees used an authentic certificate, which they copied and modified, while leaving the approval notes and expiration dates the same.
After investigation, police concluded that two further individuals, also members of Renamo, were involved in the case: the district political delegate and the campaign leader.
Both have been arrested too and all seven are expected to be charged with document forgery.
The police spokesman emphasised that the corporation’s actions had nothing to do with party colours, but served only to visit justice upon those involved in the crime.
