Speaking to party members and supporters in the Albazine neighbourhood on Tuesday, Renamo’s candidate for mayor of Maputo, Venâncio Mondlane, said that Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) presence during its recent marches had been positive, and has secured the safety of its marchers.
Maputo city recently saw another Renamo demonstration, the sixth in the city since the vote on October 11th. The PRM always attends Renamo marches, leading to the praise from Mondlane.
“We have the same contact with the police as we had during the election campaign. We always send our itinerary, the points of our concentration, the same information that we send to journalists and our followers to all police units, which have been with us since the election campaign. And the relationship has been exceptional, we are grateful. Special congratulations go to the Police of the Republic of Mozambique, especially the Protection Police, who have demonstrated impartiality,” Mondlane said.
As for the ongoing court cases, Mondlane says they will give Renamo victory: “We want to guarantee to our population that the cases we have filed in court will be successful, and they all give great hope that we will win the case in court. So far we are 70% of the way there. We also celebrate and reassure our population and reiterate that we demand criminal and disciplinary responsibility from everyone who was involved in electoral crimes.”
Hundreds of people took to the streets this Tuesday to join Renamo in its fight to have its victory in the election recognised, the party saying that electoral integrity must be restored.
