Today, Mozambican police dispersed a group of dozens of pro-Venâncio Mondlane protesters who were trying to reach the city centre of Maputo by firing several rounds of tear gas.
The dispersion took place at around 2 p.m , after a few moments of standoff, with a police armoured vehicle already parked across the street, a few hundred metres from the square of the Mozambican Women’s Organisation (OMM), in the city centre, where the commander of the force several times appealed, as witnessed by Lusa on site, for the group in the Polana Caniço neighbourhood not to advance,
With a police helicopter monitoring the area, several rounds of tear gas were fired, driving the protesters away, with the police maintaining their position, without taking further action, despite increased security in the area.
The group of protesters remained in place, protesting.
