The police on Saturday denied that four people were killed by corporation agents in Chiúre, Cabo Delgado, as charged by Samora Machel Júnior, a member of the Frelimo Central Committee and son of the first president of Mozambique. The PRM says it will demand proof of Samora Machel Júnior’s accusations through legal channels, but admits that a young man was accidentally killed by agents.
“The Police of the Republic of Mozambique regrets, denies and vehemently condemns the post circulated on social media and subsequently disseminated by some media outlets, reporting that the Police of the Republic of Mozambique had fatally shot four individuals in the district of Chiúre, Cabo Delgado province,” PRM spokesperson Orlando Mudumane said.

These accusations aside, the police acknowledged incidents during demonstration marches over the preliminary election results, with 21 people arrested for various crimes.
Mudumane further warned that fake social media accounts had been created in the name of senior state leaders in order to spread false information, which the police were investigating.
