Mozambique Elections: PODEMOS promises to bring social justice – AIM

Dias Coutinho, candidate of PODEMOS (Optimistic Party for the Development of Mozambique) for governor of the northern province of Nampula has promised to bring social justice and good governance if his party wins.

Speaking on Thursday at a rally in Namicopo neighbourhood in Nampula city, Countinho claimed that Mozambique has been badly governed by the ruling Frelimo party ever since it won independence from Portuguese rule, 49 years ago.

“We want to change the country and introduce reforms in the public sector in order to give dignity to the people. We will put an end to the kidnappings that have been plaguing the country”, he pledged.

He added that PODEMOS has a strategic plan to end the extreme violence carried out by Islamist terrorists in Cabo Delgado.

Venancio Mondlane, the independent presidential candidate backed by PODEMOS, speaking to potential voters in Mocuba district, in Zambezia, said that the forestry resources and agricultural potential of Mocuba should benefit the population.

“What Mocuba produces should benefit the people of Mocuba. Whether it’s timber, precious stones or agriculture. This is the commitment we have made. We no longer want to hear that a province with a lot of wood, gold and other riches is in misery or poverty. We want to be the fathers of Mocuba and the fathers of Zambézia”, he said.

Mondlane also promised that if he wins the elections he will reform the security system in order to tackle crime.

“We are prepared to fight crime. We believe that in order to do this, it is essential that the police service of the population is not a group of politicians. The current government is unable to provide security for the population. Under a Mondlane government, the police will not belong to political parties, but will work for the population”, he said.
