President Filipe Nyusi revealed last night that he initiated a phone conversation with presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane as part of efforts to restore stability in the country. He noted that the discussion was calm and lasted over an hour but declined to comment on its content.
Nyusi made this statement during his Christmas and New Year address to the nation. He also reiterated his commitment to dialogue and assured that he would step down as President of the Republic in January, emphasizing that he has no intention of declaring a State of Emergency to remain in power.
The President called on society, particularly politicians, to refrain from violent demonstrations.
