The Mozambican Nurses’ Association has called for sensitivity and consideration from those involved in the demonstrations, to facilitate the movement of nursing professionals from their homes to their workplaces.
Grácio Fenias Guambe, vice-president of the Nurses’ Association, explained that several professionals have not worked their shifts, generating an overload of work in the running of health units. Guambe said that it was essential to guarantee citizens’ health care on an ongoing basis.
“Recognizing that the right to health care for citizens must be guaranteed on an ongoing basis, especially for hospitalized patients and those in emergency services,” he explained.
Guambe said that the request was urgent and necessary, considering the numerous cases of professionals who do not attend their shifts, “compromising the continuity and start of care provision in emergency services”.
Guambe stressed that nurses’ badges must be recognized as valid identification guaranteeing access and mobility for nursing professionals during the protests.
