The most populous province, the northern province of Nampula, failed to meet the legal deadline for declaring its provincial result. This was because of the delay in declaring the “intermediate” (district) result for Nampula district. The delay was caused by the arrest of the district director of STAE (Electoral Administration Technical Secretariat) on Saturday on charges of embezzlement.
The Nampula district results, for all 730 polling stations, were announced on Monday, and were as follows:
Lutero Simango (MDM): 4,510 (2.3 per cent)
Daniel Chapo (Frelimo): 98,664 (50.46 per cent)
Venâncio Mondlane (independent): 80,143 (40.95 per cent)
Ossufo Momade (Renamo): 12,061 (6.29 per cent)
MDM: 6,497 (3.4 per cent)
Frelimo: 90,250 (47.23 per cent)
Renamo: 18,785 (9.8 per cent)
Podemos: 61,705 (32.29 per cent)
All these results are provisional, until they are confirmed by the National Elections Commission (CNE), and validated by the Constitutional Council.
