Mozambique’s prime minister is formally unaware of the lack of logistical conditions for both the police and the National Electoral Commission. Maleiane does not deny that there may be a lack of funds, but asserts that everything has been budgeted and approved, and that the amounts exist.
First, it was the General Commander of the Republic Police of Mozambique who, through the press, publicly complained about the logistics needed for the corporation to fulfil its mission in this year’s general elections.
Then the National Electoral Commission followed suit, stating that it did not yet have campaign funds to channel to the competing political parties, and placing the blame on the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

Prime Minister Maleiane says that, like the rest of society, he only heard this information from the CNE and Commander Bernardino Rafael via the media.
“They didn’t come to tell me that. They still haven’t told me what they don’t have because they have the budget. Now, if it’s not enough, that’s another matter, but they do have the budget. I haven’t received any complaints yet. I’m listening to you (the journalist) now. Formally, I have no knowledge because what I know is that this work is based on the budget that was approved here (in the Assembly of the Republic). And that’s what we have, which may not be enough. That’s another matter and there are mechanisms to find solutions,” Maleiane said.
The campaign for this year’s general elections will cost 260 million meticais.
