Mozambique: New horizons opened with reform deal on election crisis - opposition

The Mais Integridade Electoral Consortium has filed an appeal with the Administrative Tribunal to prevent the National Electoral Commission (CNE) from destroying the voting materials used in the 9 October election.

“The destruction of the material eliminates any possibility of auditing or investigating the authenticity of the notices and minutes used to alter the election results by the Constitutional Council (CC),” says the group of civil society organizations.
The group believes that the material in question may be useful as an object of analysis by international entities, such as the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights”.
“The voting material in question may be useful for reconstructing the history of the past electoral process, including in situations of administrative, civil and criminal liability of those involved,” it says in a statement(full text, in Portuguese, HERE).

The general election material could be destroyed next Friday (17-01), two days after the inauguration of the new President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo.
