The International Republican Institute’s (IRI) International Election Observation Mission (IEOM) to Mozambique released a statement today on the recent political violence:
The International Republican Institute (IRI) condemns the recent political violence in Mozambique, including the killing of key political figures. Such actions have no place in a democratic society and further erode the integrity of the electoral process.
We call on all parties to exercise restraint and ensure a peaceful resolution during this critical post-electoral period. IRI urges Mozambican authorities to conduct a transparent investigation and prioritize the protection of political actors and fundamental rights, upholding the democratic process with integrity and respect for the will of the people.
