The Frelimo party in the city of Maputo urges neighbourhood structures to be proactive in raising awareness among citizens so they don’t get involved in the demonstrations that have been called by one of the candidates for the general elections of 9 October.
Speaking this Wednesday at the meeting with neighbourhood secretaries and block chiefs [chefes de quarteirão] in the capital, the first secretary of Frelimo in the city of Maputo, António Niquice, said that neighbourhood structures have a fundamental role in combating violent demonstrations.
“We want our unity, work and our vigilance, because these young people who are being used to destroy our collective heritage, our achievements, are our children, our brothers, nephews, neighbours, they live with us in the community,” he said.
