Four individuals were arrested on Tuesday (17) in the city of Moatize, Tete province, accused of inciting acts of violence on National Highway Number 7 after a Renamo demonstration, Notícias Online reports.
Police spokesperson for Tete province, Feliciano da Câmara, explained that the Renamo march left the party’s district headquarters and, after traversing several arteries, returned to the same location calmly.
“We monitored the peaceful march, which took place without event. But we were surprised by a group of Renamo supporters who headed along the N7 to the central part of the city, placing barricades along the road using stones, logs and tires, and preventing the movement of people and vehicles,” he reported.
Da Câmara explained that, this scenario being a threat to public order, the police were forced to intervene, firing shots into the air in order to disperse the protesters, at which time that the four individuals instigating the action were identified.
