Five Frelimo offices in Inhambane province have been vandalized by protesters, who also stole party documents, said Adélia Zaulombo, first secretary of the Frelimo provincial committee in Inhambane, this Thursday (05-12).
“At the level of our province, we had the vandalisation of a district committee, two zone committees and two circle committees,” Zaulombo told Deutsche Welle.
In light of the situation, added the source, through the province’s Frelimo party legal office, “proceedings have already been prepared and forwarded to the competent authorities so that they can be followed up.”
For Adelia Zaulombo, the protests have already crossed “the red line”, noting that in addition to vandalising the party headquarters, the protesters have been charging illegal fees for free movement on the streets.
The announcement by the National Electoral Commission (CNE) of Mozambique on October 24 of the results of the October 9 elections, which attributed victory in the presidential elections to Frelimo candidate Daniel Chapo with 70.67% of the votes, sparked a call for popular protests by Podemos presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane, which have frequently degenerated into violent confrontations with the police.
