The Constitutional Council has rejected three appeals filed by the Podemos party on alleged irregularities in the voting and vote-counting process in Zambézia and Sofala, judging that there is no matter that constitutes an electoral dispute.
The party appealed to the Constitutional Council after the district courts of Ile and Murrumbala, in Zambézia, and of Marromeu, in Sofala, rejected Podemos complaints about alleged electoral irregularities.
In three rulings dated 18 October, the Constitutional Council decide “not to rule” on the appeals for the following reasons.
On the dispute in the district of Ile, “the court did not rule on its appeal because it considered that the matter in question required prior challenge and that it concerned issues of a criminal rather than an electoral nature”.
As to the district of Morrumbala, the Constitutional Council explains that, “Likewise, the appellant did not present any evidence that the citizens who were prevented from voting had been accredited by the Morrumbala District Elections Commission for the purposes of monitoring the vote, as established in article 56 of the Electoral Law”.
Regarding the district of Marromeu, the Constitutional Council’s explanation is that the appellant, Podemos, did not submit evidence relating to the district counting period, which took place on 12 October. For this reason, the appeal was rejected.
