Former President of the Republic Joaquim Chissano says he will only talk about the results of the October 11th municipal elections after the results are announced by the Constitutional Council. For now, he waits, calm and serene.
This is how the former president reacted to questions from journalists on the sidelines of the celebrations of the 20th anniversary of the Constitutional Council, the body responsible for validating the results of the elections.
Even in the midst of the great debate that arose after the announcement by the National Elections Commission (CNE) provisional results, with opposition parties contesting Frelimo’s victory in 64 of Mozambique’s 65 municipalities, Chissano said that he would remain silent at this time, as speaking now would be rushing in, something which he doesn’t like to do.
“On this matter, I will start thinking about it after hearing the results of the Constitutional Council,” he said, asking his interlocutors to “be patient”.
Chissano also says that Frelimo issues should be discussed internally, not publicly.
The former president was responding to questions from journalists about the recent statements made by members of his party regarding the latest electoral process.
“I usually discuss Frelimo issues at my own headquarters, because here I am talking to America, to Australia… I want to talk to Mozambicans and, above all, to Frelimo members. So I have nothing to say now, especially here,” the former head of state concluded.
