Zambezi residents once again abstained from voting, with only 33.41 percent of the 2.8 million registered voters going to the polls in the only electoral district where Renamo did not fall behind Podemos.0 The few voters elected Daniel Chapo and the Frelimo party to “drive a big vehicle called Mozambique for the next 5 years”.
Chapo obtained 73 percent of the 956,609 votes cast in the second-largest electoral constituency in Mozambique, followed by Venâncio Mondlane with 14.17 percent of the votes, Ossufo Momade with 9.82 percent and Lutero Simango with three percent of the votes.
The majority of the 42 seats that Zambézia province elects for the national parliament will continue to be held by the Frelimo party, which won 73.09 percent of the votes.
Although the Renamo party managed to stay ahead of Podmeos, with 14.99 percent of the votes, it will not keep the 12 deputies it had, leaving out some heavyweights such as Viana Magalhães and Maria Ivone Soares.
Behind Podemos, which had 7.54 percent, was the MDM with 2.18 percent of the votes for the national parliament, the Assembly of the Republic.
With 71.70 percent of the seats for the Zambézia provincial assembly, Pio Matos will continue as governor, with little opposition. The Renamo party obtained 15.88 percent of the votes, Podemos 7.38 percent and the MDM 2.61 percent.
