The presidential candidate of Mozambique’s ruling Frelimo Party, Daniel Chapo, has urged Mozambicans to unite to preserve the country’s independence and to fight against terrorism.
Speaking on Saturday in Insaca, in the northern province of Niassa, at a rally to publicise the Frelimo election manifesto, Chapo declared “We are not going to allow anyone to divide us in order to rule over us”.
Cited on Radio Mozambique, he said “We shall continue to preserve peace, because there is no development without peace. We can only develop when there is peace”.
Chapo guaranteed that Frelimo will continue to preserve national unity, because the secret of Mozambicans’ success lies in unity.
“We shall continue to preserve our independence, and our territorial integrity”, he pledged. “And for those reasons, we shall continue to fight against terrorism”.
Chapo urged Mozambicans to participate en masse in the presidential, parliamentary and provincial elections scheduled for 9 October.
“On 9 October, we can’t stay at home and think that we’ve already won”, he said. “You only win if you go out and vote”.
