Twenty-four hours after the closing of the polls for the general elections, partial results are already trickling in from Inhambane province.
Around a fifth of the polling stations there had already been processed on Thursday (10-10) with the partial count showing Daniel Chapo and Frelimo leading, followed by Venâncio Mondlane and Podemos.
The province of Inhambane registered more than one million voters, who voted in 1675 polling stations.
For the presidential vote, 91,000 votes, from 378 polling stations, had been counted by yesterday.
As of Thursday afternoon, Daniel Chapo had around 61,000 votes, corresponding to 70% of those cast; Venâncio Mondlane, around 19,000 votes, corresponding to 22%; Ossufo Momade had around 3,000 votes, corresponding to 3%; and Lutero Simango around 2,000 votes, also corresponding to 3%.
For the election of the deputies of the Assembly of the Republic, the electoral administration bodies had processed 28,000 votes from 185 polling station
Frelimo had around 27,000 votes, corresponding to 88%; Podemos had 4,000 votes, corresponding to 12%; Renamo, 2,000 votes, approximately 7%; and MDM had around 1,000 votes, corresponding to 3%;
Regarding the elections for the provincial assembly, 40,000 votes had been counted from 213 polling stations.
Police in the province say six people were detained in various locations regarding four cases of electoral misconduct.
