Mozambique Elections: Lawyer denounces poisoning attempt - AIM report

Mozambique’s National Electoral Commission (CNE) has approved the setting up of more than 600 polling stations outside the country for the general elections scheduled for 9 October, including in 11 cities in Portugal, according to a decision to which Lusa had access on Monday.
The text shows that the CNE approved the setting up of 602 polling stations in seven countries in Africa and two in Europe, to enable voting by the 331,939 voters registered abroad who are eligible to vote in these presidential and legislative elections.
The foreign country with the largest number of polling stations is neighbouring South Africa, with 359, with 215,831 registered voters, but polling stations were also approved in Tanzania (75), Malawi (61), Zimbabwe (60), Zambia (11), Eswatini (10) and Kenya (eight).
In Europe, the CNE approved the creation of five polling stations in Germany (for 670 voters) and 13 in Portugal (for 1,177 registered voters).
In addition to Lisbon and Porto, the CNE is to open polling stations in the Portuguese cities of Évora, Portimão, Faro, Coimbra, Viseu, Braga, Aveiro, Bragança and Vila Real.
Mozambique is holding general elections on 9 October, including presidential elections, in which the current president, Filipe Nyusi, is no longer standing, as he is serving his second term, the maximum allowed under the country’s constitution.
Voting will be for the 250 members of the national parliament and also for the governors of the provinces and their provincial assemblies, in this case with a total of 794 seats to be distributed.
