Eight people have died and two are missing as a result of a shipwreck that occurred this Monday in the district of Caia, Sofala province.
The incident took place on one of the tributaries of the Zambezi River when the canoe carrying the victims sank.
The boat had twelve occupants, all from the same family, of which two survived.
Overcrowding of the canoe is cited as the likely cause of the tragedy.
The administrator of the Caia district, Nobre dos Santos, said that after the shipwreck alert was given, the search for the missing persons immediately began.
