Eight lifeless bodies were found on Sunday in the Nanga A neighbourhood on the outskirts Macomia in Cabo Delgado province. One of the bodies showed signs of beheading, and the others gunshot wounds.
According to sources, in addition to the eight found dead, a child also died of starvation after spending three days hiding in the bush with his parents.
Another death reported to ‘Carta’ is that of a teacher who lost his life in the bush after being taken from the Macomia Health Centre after the attack began.
According to ‘Carta’ sources, the insurgents destroyed the district penitentiary and released the prisoners, who were later used to transport the looted goods to the vehicles stolen there.
The real extent of the damage in Macomia is not yet known, as neither is the number of casualties, whether civilian, military or insurgent. However, some suggest that casualties among the armed group were not high, taking into account the three-day occupation of the town.
