Eight bodies have been found in various neighbourhoods of Palma, the capital town of the district of the same name in Cabo Delgado province, northern Mozambique, during the past week. On Friday alone, five bodies were discovered in one neighbourhood.
‘Carta’ sources did not clarify the causes of the deaths, but asserted that the state of the bodies suggested that the individuals had died recently. The same sources added that shots were heard in Palma over the weekend, but it was not possible to establish whether not they constituted an exchange of fire between the Defence and Security Forces (FDS) and insurgents.
Palma remains a ghost town, with members of the population still looking for ways to reach Pemba, the provincial capital. Sailing boats are currently the most commonly used means of transport.
