Electricidade de Moçambique (Mozambique Electricity/EDM) will by the end of the year have replaced most of the remaining post-paid meters with prepaid Credelec units, the public company has announced.
The change is expected to cover 35,000 customers, with only “sensitive services” institutions such as hospitals continuing to use post-paid meters and receive invoices based on consumption.
Under Credelec, the system that already covers a large number of users, electricity recharge codes are purchased at ATMs, by mobile phone or ‘home banking’ on the Internet, and entered with a numeric keypad on the meter itself.
The replacement of post-paid meters began in 1995.
EDM says that technical personnel will comply with all Covid-19 hygiene and disinfection protocols during meter replacement operations.
By Thursday, September 10, Mozambique had an accumulated total of 4,832 Covid-19 cases, with 31 deaths and 2,857 recoveries (59% of the total).
