Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) in Chókwe, Gaza, connected 5,230 new households to
the electricity grid in the first six months of this year.
This figure represents 42% of EDM-Chókwe’s target for this year, which is set at 12,500 new connections.
Júlio Simango, director of the EDM Chókwe customer service area, is optimistic about
reaching the target, considering the company’s ongoing projects for the expansion of the electricity grid.
Simango notes that grid expansion works are currently underway in several communities in the Chókwe and Guijá districts, as part of the universal energy access program.
Currently, EDM Chókwe has a customer base of 136,665 consumers across nine districts of the Gaza province, as well as Magude and part of the Manhiça district in Maputo Province.
