LAM fined over 11 million meticais for illegal surcharge - AIM report
As a result of the closure of these companies, 466 workers lost their jobs, according to the provincial director of Labour, Employment and Social Security in this part of the country, Jaime Chicamisse.
In fact, Chicamisse told Diario de Mocambique, the firms that closed the doors were struggling with profitability issues.
Regarding the branches of activities, he said that most of the companies that have closed are related to branches of service providers and trade, though some are from the manufacturing industry.
The city of Beira, Sofala’s largest industrial park, is the region with the largest number of firms closed, followed by the districts of Dondo, Marromeu, Nhamatanda and Búzi.
In another development, Chicamisse revealed that, on the other hand, the Provincial Directorate of Labour, Employment and Social Security received a communication about the start of activities of 258 new companies, from January to December of this year, and is currently surveying the number of people who have benefited from jobs.
This is already a good sign, although most are micro and medium enterprises. Of these new ones that opened the doors, the majority are of the commercial branch, provision of services and very few of restoration, said Chicamisse.
