Mozambique’s Economic Climate Indicator slowed in July, the National Institute of Statistics (INE) has announced.
The index rose from 96.9 in May to 99.8 in June, according to revised figures, but in July it fell to 98.2.
“The Economic Climate Indicator slowed in July as it slightly declined, disrupting the favourable profile it had been experiencing over the past three months. This slowdown is due to the deterioration in employment prospects and falling demand prospects in the month under analysis,” the INE’s Bulletin of Confidence and Economic Climate Indicators reads.
However, trade and construction indices were positive, in contrast with industrial production, transportation, housing and catering.
The Economic Confidence and Climate Indicators are a monthly publication on Mozambique’s economic environment, compiled on the basis of an economic survey on non-financial sector companies conducted every month by INE.
“The study expresses the opinion of economic agents about the evolution and perspective of their activity, particularly about employment, demand, orders, prices, production, sales and activity limitations,” the National Statistics Institute explains.
