The Economic Climate Indicator (ICE) of Mozambican companies ended 2018 with a slight appreciation, according to the latest bulletin from the Mozambican National Statistics Institute (INE), consulted by Lusa.
The index rose to a value of 99.4, against 97.9 in November.
“The confidence and expectations of business owners and managers increased slightly in the fourth quarter after a slight decline in the previous quarter,” the INE reports.
The fourth quarter balance was “at the level of the average of the respective time series”, the increase “influenced by the favourable appreciation of demand and employment expectations in the reference period”, it adds.
“The favourable environment of the economic climate in the fourth quarter was due in part to the positive assessment of confidence in commerce, accommodation and catering, transport and industrial production, overcoming the negative trend in construction and other non-financial services,” the INE concludes.
The Confidence and Economic Climate indicators are compiled on the basis of a monthly survey of non-financial sector companies.
“The study expresses the opinion of economic agents about the evolution and perspective of their activity, particularly on employment, demand, orders, prices, production, sales and activity limitations,” the INE explains.
