Mozambique: Tobacco industry production grows 8.8% in first nine months

A Dutch business mission including 20 companies and 25 participants from the agribusiness sector is visiting Mozambique since Monday,.
The mission aims to explore business opportunities in Mozambique, namely on the sectors of seeds, agrologists, poultry, and agroforestry,
The visit includes, among others, meetings with relevant public and private institutions in Beira (17 March), Chimoio (17, 18 and 19 March) and in Maputo (19 to 21 March), with the organisation of a trade fair, a seminar and round tables.
The organisation of this mission is the result of a partnership between the Embassy of the Kingdom of The Netherlands in Mozambique, the Netherlands-African Business Council (NABC) and the Mozambique-Netherlands Chamber of Commerce.
Representing the Netherlands, the mission is led by the International Director for Agribusiness and Food Security of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature, and representing the companies, by the CEO of HVA International, a company linked to agriculture and asset management based in the Netherlands, with extensive experience in the development of tropical agriculture projects.
A welcome reception in Beira marked the official kick-off of the Dutch Agricultural Trade Mission to Mozambique. Ambassador Elsbeth Akkerman welcomed a room full of energy, knowledge and ambition, setting the tone for a week of collaboration and opportunities. The reception was attended by important Mozambican dignitaries, including: Provincial Governor Lourenço Bulha, Secretary of State Cecília Chamutota, Mayor of Beira Albano Carige and the National Director of Agriculture Jaime Chissico.
On Tuesday, during the visit to the Port of Beira as part of the Dutch Agricultural Trade Mission to Mozambique, we took concrete steps to strengthen the Mozambican agricultural and trade sector.
At the Port of Beira (operated by Dutch company Cornelder de Moçambique, S.A.), the members of the business mission saw in situ how efficient infrastructure and mobility are essential to boost trade and economic growth.
On the same day, a visit to a processing plant of Tongaat Hulett Mozambique gave the members of the Dutch business delegation a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities of the food processing industry in the country.
The following day of the trade mission could not have started any better for the Seed cluster group thanks to Produsola ‘s delicious dragon fruits.
Together with the two other cluster groups in Poultry and Agriculture, day two of the trade mission focused on strengthening Mozambique’s agricultural value chains through innovation and collaboration in the Chimoio region.
Westfalia Packhouse, Phoenix Seeds and SeedCo, valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities within the three sectors were discussed.
Engaging directly with local entrepreneurs allowed mission participants to exchange knowledge, foster connections, and identify areas where Dutch expertise can drive meaningful change.
The Poultry cluster group also had a mouth-watering experience during lunch at one of Mozambique’s largest poultry companies Abilio Antunes. Most importantly was the business discussed during their compelling tour.
To close the day, a busy network reception in Chimoio provided the perfect platform for further discussions and new connections. As one of the most agriculturally fertile lands, Governor Francisca Domingos Tomás captured the spirit of the day with the encouraging words: “Chimoio is ready to do business with The Netherland
