New prices that make the cost of a driver’s licence in Mozambique almost eight times higher come into force on 5 November, the country’s National Land Transport Institute (Inatter) said on Monday.
The institute justified the increase of rate in another statement earlier this month, with the quality of the service provided, but at the time the new law was left open.
The driving examination rate for light, heavy, motorcycles and tractors, is set to go from 100 meticals (€1.4) to 2,185 meticals (€31) in all categories.
The rate for issuing the document is added, which goes from 500 meticals (around €7) to 2,500 meticals (€35).
All in all, the total of the two rates ranges from 600 meticals (€8.6) to 4,685 meticals (€67), a 680% increase or almost eight times more.
Also added to the rate is the amount charged by the country’s driving schools, which varies between 7,000 meticals (€100) and 10,000 meticals (€143).
