Within the scope of Covid-19 counter-measures, Dondo District Service for Health, Women and Social Action [SDSMAS] received a tip-off from Bairro Central in Dondo city that used disposable surgical masks, damaged by rain, were at a warehouse belonging to a Chinese citizen, being washed and dried, with the aim of selling them on at 25.00Mt each.
A joint operation by SDSMAS, municipal police and the Police of the Republic of Mozambique collected the masks from the citizens’ residence and the yard where the remainder of the damaged masks were being stored.
The more-than 20,000 disposable surgical masks were incinerated in the municipal garbage dump.
