Doctor Jorge Arroz lost his life early on Sunday evening in a private clinic in Maputo, after being admitted with a sudden illness.
A family source confirmed the news to CanalMoz, without giving further details.
A member of the Mozambican Association of Doctors, Jorge Arroz became widely known when he led a doctors’ strike in 2013. He was temporarily detained at the time, sparking a national wave of protest.
His death comes a few days after Arroz creating a brochure about the coronavirus, in which he said and we quote: “I realised that there is a“ hunger ”for information about the new flu from China, and the risk for Mozambique. Therefore, I produced these notes, addressed to the public, so that it is better informed about the disease. Have a good read”.
In the document, doctor Jorge Arroz talks about the origin of Covid-19, its preventive measures and the possible risk for Mozambique.
